The Essential Guide to Being a Tenant Chair

This workshop is for residents who chair committees and meetings, or who would like to in the future. It will look at the roles and responsibilities of being a chairperson.

  • This course will look at key chairing skills such as clarifying purpose, time-keeping, using questions, introducing and summarising, managing discussions and bringing in people.
  • The course will also look at managing conflict and disagreement in a meeting environment.
  • We will help you to understand the ideal shape of discussions, and how effective decisions are reached as well as Action planning improvements to meetings and committees.
  • The course will help you to understand the processes and useful roles in groups plus look at good practice for procedural matters

Your trainer for the day is Roger Saunders. Roger has worked in social housing and regeneration for 25 years. In his career so far he has been a tenant activist, actor, co-op manager, writer, trainer, consultant, neighbourhood renewal adviser and chief executive. In 2005 he set up Choosing Change, which aims to help people and communities make the changes they need. His training is relaxed, friendly and engaging.
