Residents on Board: An Introduction for Board Members
This course is aimed at tenants who have either recently joined a board or those who are considering joining. It will explore the roles and responsibilities of all those on board and help you to explore your own personal development within this. It is also suitable for board members who would like to refresh their knowledge.
The day will begin by looking briefly at the history of social housing, learning the different legal structures and types of organisations.
We will then look at the responsibilities and role of the board and the contribution that residents make to it.
It will conclude with each participant working out what their own development needs are and what other kinds of support they need to become a confident and effective board member.
The day will be participative and provide plenty of opportunities to debate issues and to consider the participants practical experiences.
Your trainer for the day is Hattie Llewelyn-Davies. Hattie has worked in housing all her adult life. In 1996 she became self employed and works as a consultant with housing organisations. Her last employed role was as the chief executive of a large London housing association. Her work since then includes eight interim chief executive roles, advising on three successful stock transfers, trained and supported a number of ALMO boards through the start up phase of their work, worked in a variety of change management roles and worked with housing association boards on their role, governance reviews and appraisal processes.
