What is the Tenant Empowerment Grant?
The Tenant Empowerment Programme (TEP) is managed by the Tenant Services Authority on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). The programme was established to support the government’s objectives to increase the effectiveness of housing management and to help improve the quality of life for residents living on local authority estates. It underpins the government’s wider current policy objectives for empowering communities by devolving more power and responsibility to individuals and communities, and by enabling people to challenge, influence or control the decisions that affect their communities
The Tenant Empowerment Grant (TEG) pays for or subsidises the costs involved in providing these services to tenants. However, it does not fund mainstream tenant participation activity, which remains the responsibility of the landlord. The training, conference and information services are open equally to local authority and to housing association tenants and residents. However, the TEG does not provide a subsidy for housing association tenants to attend events.
